To boost local innovation and economic development, the Batac City Council has approved the establishment of the Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Park, a flagship project spearheaded by Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU). The project received the council's green light after a series of deliberations, signaling strong local government support for science and technology-driven initiatives.

The MMSU KIST Park aims to become a premier hub for research, development, and technological advancements in the region, serving as a key contributor to national progress.

Located in MMSU’s 7.5 hectare property, the facility will offer technology-equipped learning and research spaces/facilities and foster industry-academe collaboration in research and development, leading to many significant technological innovations that will benefit the stakeholders. The project also aligns with the strategic goals and development plans of the City of Batac, promoting the city as a Smart City.

Representing MMSU during the official endorsement of the KIST Project were OIC President Prime Fe Franco; Dr. Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., vice president for Planning and Strategic Foresight; Dr. Bjorn Santos, vice president for resource generation and management; Prof. Reynold Villacillo, director of Quality Assurance; Ms. Lenie Bayangos, director of Internal Audit; and Dr. Sherlyn Nicolas, chief of Monitoring and Evaluation.

Atty. Windel Chua, vice mayor of the City of Batac, together with Sangguniang Bayan and Panglungsod members lauded the project, noting that it aligns with the city’s vision of becoming a hub for innovation and sustainable development in Northern Luzon. The park is expected to attract investments, create high-skill job opportunities, and support local entrepreneurs and researchers in developing cutting-edge solutions.

With the council’s approval, MMSU will ensure the KIST Park’s long-term success through initiated partnerships with government agencies and private industries.
