Two graduate students of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) earned recognitions during the 10th University Consortium (UC) Summer School 2026, held in Bogor, Indonesia, on September 22 to October 6.
Among the participants, Mr. Jayson Cariaga was named as Most Inspiring Student for his active involvement and strong contribution to the summer school community. Meanwhile, Ms. Immanuelle Faith Sibayan, together with her assigned group, received the Most Favorite Group award.
Both Cariaga and Sibayan are Master of Science in Biology students who joined other scholars and researchers from across Asia in exploring integrated land-sea systems and sustainable resource management.
Their participation was supported by Dr. Doreen Domingo, Dean of the MMSU Graduate School, and Dr. Peter James Icalia-Gann, the university’s UC coordinator, who helped facilitate their engagement in the international academic program.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr., commended the MMSU Graduate School for sustaining the university’s international engagement, providing graduate students opportunity to exchange knowledge, build new ties, and participate in global academic initiatives.
Through lectures, collaborative activities, and field visits, Cariaga and Sibayan deepened their understanding of biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, and sustainable resource management, particularly the interconnectedness of terrestrial, freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems.
Hosted by IPB University (Institut Pertanian Bogor) in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), this year’s summer school carried the theme “Agromaritime: Integrated Land–Sea Systems for Sustainable Resource Management.” The event brought together participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, and Taiwan.
The Summer School is an annual UC initiative designed to deepen the understanding of graduate students, researchers and professionals across Southeast Asia in rural development, agriculture, and natural resource management, particularly the sustainable use of the land and water resources in agricultural production.
