MMSU VetMed dean earns Charter Diplomate status in PH College of Veterinary Internal Medicine

Dr. Melvin A. Bagot, Dean of the MMSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), was conferred as Charter Diplomate of the Philippine College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (PCVIM) during the 54th Veterinary Practitioners Association of the Philippines Annual Scientific Conference on June 16–17 at Fairmont Makati.
The distinction places him among the 25 veterinarians nationwide recognized as Charter Diplomates and Founding Fellows of the newly established specialty college.
The Dean noted that becoming a PCVIM diplomate involves a strict evaluation process. Applicants are assessed based on their experience in veterinary internal medicine, roles as resource speakers, research papers and case reports presented, published scholarly work, documented clinical cases handled, and participation in trainings, seminars, workshops, and scientific conferences.
Dean Bagot specializes in poultry and swine medicine, preventive medicine, and infectious diseases, and has consistently contributed to veterinary practice in the Philippines.
“This recognition is a call to greater responsibility and service to the veterinary profession and the field of veterinary internal medicine,” Dr. Bagot said.
The recognition strengthens the Dean’s professional standing and opens more opportunities for collaboration with veterinary specialists nationwide. It is also expected to boost the reputation of CVM and further improve its teaching, research, extension, and clinical services for students and stakeholders.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano Jr. congratulated Dr. Bagot on the achievement.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for Dr. Bagot. He is known in our community as a passionate veterinary professional, and his achievement brings great pride to MMSU and the College of Veterinary Medicine,” President Manzano said.
The Philippine College of Veterinary Internal Medicine was formally established in 2026 after the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association elevated the Philippine Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine (PSVIM), which was founded in 2021. The move has strengthened veterinary specialization in the country through higher professional standards, continuing education, and expert development in veterinary internal medicine.
