Three students from the Ashikaga University (AU) in Japan visited MMSU on February 26 to start their 2-week Special English Language Program, organized by the MMSU Language Center (LC).

Led by AU Computer Engineering faculty member Ms. Hiroko Akiyama, the students were received by MMSU Vice President for Administration and Finance Fides Bernardo Bitanga, standing in for President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. Also in attendance were MMSU-College of Arts and Sciences Dean Marlina Lino, MMSU LC Chief Ryan Roi Domingo, and specialist learning provider Ms. Leah Mae Gaor.

In his message, Dr. Bitanga thanked the AU delegation for their continued collaboration with MMSU, stating that it helps the university in achieving its SUCCEED agenda.

“We welcome this activity because the Mariano Marcos State University endeavors in its internationalization efforts, and teaching English is part of it,” Dr. Bitanga said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Akiyama extended her gratitude to MMSU for offering the program as well as its hospitality towards AU.

“Thank you very much for welcoming us and for offering this program even though we have a small group this year. Our students last year were very satisfied with the program,” Ms. Akiyama said.

Ms. Akiyama also shared that she is open to dialogue with the dean of MMSU’s College of Computing and Information Sciences for possible academic partnerships in the future.

MMSU has been in partnership with AU since 2018. In 2023, both institutions renewed their collaboration by signing a five-year memorandum of agreement to work on academic and community activities.
