A team of powerlifters from the MMSU Powerlifting Organization secured multiple podium finishes at the Interschool and Novice Classic Powerlifting Competition 2026, held last February 5 to 8 in Taguig City, National Capital Region.

The team of 12 lifters competed under the collegiate category across different classes and delivered a total of five (5) medals.

From the womenโ€™s team, Phyllicia Renj T. Manibog (BS Biology) and Maria Kristine Cassandra C. Coloma (BS Entrepreneurship) brought home a gold medal each in the Under-69 kg and Under-63 kg classes, respectively, while Ryle Keithrein R. Lintag (BS Tourism Management) took a silver from the Under-57 kg class. Meanwhile, Erick Lenin E. Escamilla (BS Physical Therapy) and Avrill Gem B. Geronimo (BS Food Processing and Service Management) from the menโ€™s team each won a silver medal in the Under-105 kg and Under-66 kg classes, respectively.

The standout performances from the lifters showcased the teamโ€™s growing strength and competitiveness on the national stage. Organization Adviser, Mr. Marc Clinton Dacuycuy, noted the importance of continued exposure to major competitions to further build the maturity of MMSU athletes.

Mr. Dacuycuy also stressed that despite not earning medals, all the team members showed commendable performances and displayed sportsmanship and discipline throughout the competition.

Drawing student-athletes from schools nationwide, the Interschool and Novice Classic Powerlifting Competition 2026 was sponsored by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines (PAP). MMSUโ€™s participation in the meet, thus, serves as a platform to gain valuable experience in a nationally recognized competition.
