PJM: 90% of MMSU retirees’ recommendations implemented
Nearly 90 percent of the recommendations raised by retirees during last year’s consultation have already been implemented, MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. reported. He shared this during the Annual Retirees’ Day on January 29 at the Teatro Ilocandia, held as part of the University’s 48th Foundation Anniversary.
The event, organized by the Mariano Marcos State University–Retired Employees Association (MMSU-REA), was actively supported and joined by many retirees from different colleges and units, offering an opportunity to reconnect with the university and remember their contributions to its growth and achievements.
In his report, President Manzano outlined completed and ongoing infrastructure projects and emphasized that the retirees’ insights are important for the university's governance and development.
“Your wisdom, experience, and commitment to MMSU do not end with retirement,” Manzano said. “You remain vital partners in our journey, and we deeply value your ideas and guidance as we move the University forward.”
Dr. Santiago R. Obien, second President of MMSU and current President of MMSU-REA, reaffirmed the association’s support for the University and the present administration. He encouraged fellow retirees to remain united in advancing both the organization and MMSU.
“I hope we continue working together toward a stronger retirees’ organization and a better MMSU,” Obien said.
Vice President for Finance and Administration Fides Bernardo Bitanga also underscored the importance of retirees as sources of inspiration for current faculty and staff, expressing gratitude for their continued engagement and enduring connection with the University.
The program included the recognition of former Administrative Council members now part of the retirees’ organization. Plaques of recognition were awarded to Dr. Prima Fe Franco, OIC President (2015–2017; 2024–2025); Dr. Oscar Agpaoa, Vice President for Administration and Finance (2021–2025); Dr. Leonisa Silvestre, Director of Health and Wellness Services (2017–2025); Dr. Blesilda Formantes, Dean of the College of Dentistry (2023–2026); and Dr. Marilou Lucas, Extension Director (2023–2025).
Adding cultural color to the celebration, retirees presented “𝘗𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨-𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘵𝘪 𝘛𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘥 𝘒𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘯𝘪 𝘐𝘭𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘰 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘦𝘯 𝘋𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘪 𝘕𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘮𝘢 𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘺𝘢,” a series of performances showcasing Ilokano heritage. The event also served as a consultation platform, where MMSU-REA members presented program proposals and ratified the association’s constitution.
The Retirees’ Day celebrates that service to MMSU extends beyond active employment, reflecting the enduring partnership between the university and those who devoted their careers to its mission as it marks 48 years of excellence. (𝘔𝘔𝘝)
