Now on its final installment, the MMSU National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center (NBERIC) held the third session of its Straight Direct Talks titled “Energizing Young Minds for Renewable Energy and a Sustainable Future” on November 26 at the NBERIC Auditorium.
Dr. Ian Dominic Tabañag, Science and Technology (S&T) Fellow from the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST - PCIEERD), served as the resource speaker.
The session aimed to inspire, educate, and empower students, early-career professionals, and young innovators to see themselves as active contributors in building a sustainable energy future, recognizing the youth not only as future leaders but as present-day changemakers.
The event brought together senior high school students from various schools in Ilocos Norte, namely Ilocos Norte National High School, Bangui National High School, Currimao National High School, Immaculate Conception Academy, Paoay National High School, Sarrat National High School, San Nicolas National High School, Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades, and the MMSU Laboratory High School.
The workshop helped participants to practice collaboration and exercise their problem-solving abilities while coming up with innovative solutions to solve global issues.
In his message, Dr. James Paul Madigal, NBERIC Director, emphasized the importance of renewable energy, such as biofuels and other bioenergy forms, in reducing carbon emissions and building climate resilience.
NBERIC remains at the forefront of MMSU’s renewable energy research, serving as a key driver of innovation and continuing to advance bioethanol research through partnerships with agencies like the DOST-PCIEERD.
MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. commended NBERIC for its sustained efforts in advancing renewable energy research and inspiring young people to take part in building a sustainable future.
The first session of the Straight Direct Talks was held online on April 29, featuring Dr. Aymerick Eudes, a scientist from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, USA, who discussed biomass. The second virtual session took place on September 9, with Dr. Tsutomo Dei, an associate professor at Ashikaga University, as the speaker on solar energy.
