Sixteen students and four faculty members of MMSU College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) participated in the Youth Impact Nexus Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Pathum Thani, Thailand, on October 26-31.
Organized by the AIT Entrepreneurship Center, the program aimed to nurture the next generation of changemakers and empower young leaders to make a lasting impact in their communities.
The students who participated in the program included Mark Aleck Bocaya, Chariemaeh Valerie Quicquic, Princess Monica Gallay, Renz Kyle Gabriel, Roniel Domingo Jr., Nicole Althea Pambid, Frances Erika Ochavillo, and Fatima Iyah Miguel (BS Agribusiness); Yrma Mikaela Pineda, Jamaica Corpuz, Karl Louie Azcueta, Frenzyn Erich Abuan, Peter Jhaye Alcantara, and Gian Alvin Agron (BS Agriculture); Deniselle Love Desiderio (BS Development Communication); and Oedrei Pria Pugat (BS Food Technology).
They were accompanied by Prof. Ethel Reynda Calivoso, department chair of the Agribusiness Department; Ms. Alliah Ashiel Tagatac and Ms. Shyrah Bumanglag, faculty members of the same department; and Prof. Jovy Anne Pedro of the Agricultural Sciences Department. The delegation was welcomed by the AIT Entrepreneurship Center, headed by Prof. Dieter Trau.
During their stay, participants engaged in workshops, pitching sessions, a field visit to Shooshoke Farm in Bangkachao, and campus tours to three different schools where they presented their course offerings and initiatives toward sustainability. They also explored laboratories and facilities and engaged in meaningful interactions with the AIT community.
According to Prof. Calivoso, the program provided valuable learning opportunities and interactions that improved their communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
The participation of MMSU in the program is anchored on its partnership with AIT, which seeks to promote academic collaboration, cultural exchange, and the sharing of best practices in research, innovation, and sustainable development.
