Students of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) emerged victorious in the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM) Regional Finals, bagging two championship titles during the NSM closing ceremony on October 29 in San Fernando City, La Union.
BA Communication students Adriel Ethan Bleza, John Matthew Cabie, John Aldrich Domingo, Princess Diane Labrador, and Mark Jerome Orque were pronounced champions in the Stat Show (Statiktok) video-making contest. They were under the mentorship of Mx. Jhanel Joshua Orpia.
Their entry showcased the importance of data and statistics in measuring progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. It portrayed how the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) collaborates with local agencies, government units, civil society, and the private sector to make data accessible and understandable for use towards development.
Moreover, MMSU’s Stat Masters team also emerged champions in the statistics quiz. The group consists of civil engineering students Ezekiel Arellano and Charles Adrian Fruelda, and chemical engineering student Benedict John Badua. They were mentored by Mr. Carl Mark James Remedios and Engr. Jonas Paul Dela Cruz.
Themed “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” this year’s celebration focused on the essence of accessible, accurate, and reliable data in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
Hosted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in partnership with various government agencies, the event aimed to promote statistical awareness across the country.
MMSU’s strong performance in the regional contests reflects its commitment to promoting data-driven thinking, effective communication, and innovation among its students, solidifying its standing as one of the leading institutions in Region I.
