Baylor University holds medical mission in Ilocos Norte
Students and faculty members of Baylor University in Texas, USA, headed by Assistant Director for Missions, Ms. Sarah Nelson, paid a courtesy visit to MMSU President Virgilio Julius P. Manzano, Jr. on January 8, at the FEM Hall. The delegation is currently in Ilocos Norte for the 2026 Mission Tour titled “Philippine Healthcare Delivery System: Ilocos Norte in Focus.”
The mission is hosted by the Philippine Nurses’ Association–Ilocos Norte Chapter (PNA–Ilocos Norte).
As part of the mission, the students, members of an organization of pre-health and allied health students, are partnering with PNA–Ilocos Norte to shadow local health professionals, render service at an orphanage, and immerse themselves in Filipino culture through community engagement. The affiliating institutions for the mission include Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, Shekinah Homes, and the Solsona Rural Health Unit.
MMSU President Manzano shared his excitement about potential future collaborations between the two universities, particularly in improving healthcare programs and policies. He also mentioned the high performance ratings of the MMSU College of Health Sciences and College of Medicine in board examinations, proving the university’s high standard in producing quality healthcare workers.
The students were accompanied by their mission mentors, Dr. Maricel de Mesa, Dr. Leilani Mercado, and Dr. Ramil Mercado, along with the College of Health Sciences (CHS) College Secretary and PNA–Ilocos Norte Treasurer, Dr. Karen Raidis Marcelino. (𝘔𝘔𝘝)
