by Jareason Fabre

Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) has introduced 10 micro-credential courses through its Curriculum Development and Innovative Learning (CDIL) Directorate. The program was officially launched on January 28 during the Stakeholders’ Forum at Teatro Ilocandia.
Micro-credentials are short, focused courses designed to help learners gain specific skills for career growth. Through competency-based training and assessment, they aim to enhance qualifications and improve employability. MMSU officially offers micro-credential courses following the approval of Board Resolution Order No. 25, series of 2024.

MMSU is offering two micro-credential courses in partnership with the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA), namely Personality Development and Social Graces, and Bookkeeping and Financial Reporting.

The remaining eight courses are offered in collaboration with the College of Engineering (COE), including Creative Venture Using Lean Model, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit MEP Fundamentals, Autodesk Revit Structure Fundamentals, Autodesk Revit Architecture Advanced, and Autodesk Revit Architecture Fundamentals.

CDIL Director Ronald Candy Lasaten explained that MMSU’s micro-credential courses focus on verifying specific skills and competencies. They are designed using research-based frameworks, require practical demonstrations, and use clear assessment criteria. He encouraged students, alumni, and employees to take advantage of these courses to enhance their skills.

During the launch, Dr. Lasaten, COE Dean Sharona Barroga, CBEA Dean Angelina Abrojena, and MMSU OIC-President Prima Fe R. Franco introduced the new offerings by unveiling a dedicated micro-credentials page on the MMSU website and distributing brochures.

Dr. Franco, who is concurrently the Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized that these micro-credential courses mark a transformative step in the university’s commitment to lifelong learning. She explained that the initiative empowers individuals to continuously upgrade their skills, ensuring they remain competitive in an evolving job market.
