by Abril Ryan Dacanay, STRATCOM Correspondent
Two professors of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Dr. Gina Sylvia Gaoat and Dr. Jay-ar Cristobal, were recently in Kudus, Central Java, Indonesia, for the Lecturer Exchange Program hosted by Universitas Muria Kudus (UMK) from November 25 to 28.
This initiative is part of MMSU’s push to internationalize education and strengthen its institutional ties with ASEAN countries. As visiting lecturers, Dr. Gaoat and Dr. Cristobal had academic engagements, participated in collaborative research discussions, immersed themselves in Indonesian culture, and explored new avenues for long-term academic cooperation. They also monitored MMSU CTE student interns in Kudus, Central Java.
MMSU’s visiting faculty also benchmarked English language teaching and learning practices in Indonesian primary and secondary schools. Their stay also highlighted opportunities for future research exchanges, co-authored publications, and expanded collaboration between MMSU and UMK.
Expressing her gratitude for the support to the university, Dr. Gaoat shared: “The lecturer exchange program enabled the English Education Department of UMK to benchmark from MMSU, while likewise helping us refine our own methodologies from a global perspective.”
Her insights reflect the importance of international mobility programs in broadening cultural understanding, strengthening professional networks, and enriching the pedagogical landscape of language education.
Immediately after completing their activities at UMK, Dr. Gaoat and Dr. Cristobal proceeded to Universitas PGRI Semarang (UPGRIS) in Kota Semarang, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia, from November 29 to December 3, where they continue their academic exchange through additional lectures, collaborative research meetings, cultural immersion, and exploratory discussions aimed at expanding mobility initiatives between MMSU and UPGRIS.
MMSU continues to enhance its global presence as part of IZN, which supports new ideas and strengthens the learning community.
