In its continuing effort to promote disaster preparedness and readiness, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) joined the 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on November 6.
Students, faculty members, and staff participated in the drill in compliance with Memorandum No. 27, s. 2025 of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), held in observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day.
This was spearheaded by the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, led by Chief Reynold Guiang, under the guidance of the Security Monitoring Services headed by Director Jan Francis Javier.
During the drill, participants performed the standard “drop, cover, and hold” procedure, while security personnel simulated damage and casualty checks in the building.
“In the face of dangers, preparedness is the key to resiliency,” said Chief Guiang, emphasizing that the drill trains the university community to minimize casualties and achieve quick recovery during such calamities.
All colleges and units of MMSU joined the nationwide earthquake drill and conducted their respective exercise to reinforce readiness in times of unexpected calamities, building on the separate drills held in the previous months. DRRM focal persons from each college, including those from the other campuses, led their own exercises.
Notably, Dir. Javier remarked that the units demonstrated quicker and more organized responses as a result of the said routine drills.
Chief Guiang also reminded all units to expect unannounced drills anytime and to simulate the standard safety procedures once alarms are sounded.
This activity reflects MMSU’s commitment as a public institution to safeguard its stakeholders and maintain operational readiness even in times of disasters and calamities.
