SCA presents 7-point agenda

MMSU President Shirley C. Agrupis has presented her seven-point agenda, which serve as compass in achieving her new vision–MMSU as a premier Philippine university by 2028–before the newly-designated university officials during their simple mass oath-taking ceremony on October 2.

Coined with the accronym ACHIEVE, the president said the word has two meanings. In the Webster’s dictionary, it means to accomplish–an action word to bring about intended results. But in the context of the new vision of MMSU, ACHIEVE represents a seven-point agenda, which “will be our take-off point in realizing our vision.”

Dr. Agrupis said A stands for academic quality and relevance; C for creative and relevant research programs; H for high impact extension and outreach programs; I for improved revenue generation and resource management; E for external linkages and partnerships; V for vibrant and nurturing learning environment; and another E for effective and efficient management system.

Anchored on her seven-point agenda, President Agrupis has set the timeline for the transformative period, from 2017 to 2021 which is the duration of her term. She plans to expand MMSU’s Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development, revise the university’s manpower and development program, invest in new learning management systems, upgrade academic support facilities and programs, expand linkages for student and faculty mobility, rationalize research and extension programs, imbue (social, spiritual, and ethical) values; intensify resource generation, and espouse management by objectives and distributed leadership.

Dr. Agrupis also shared her reasons behind designating the new university officials with their respective positions.

“I have full trust in them and I know that they have the heart for MMSU and are ready to share their time, God-given abilities, and innovative abilities to help me establish the university’s direction and create an alignment towards a new, excellent university,” she said, adding that the new set of officials have earned positive reputation in doing their respective responsibilities.

“I also appointed the young ones, because I can see that they are committed, honest, ambitious, resilient, and motivated to their work,” she added.

At the close of the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Agrupis urged the officials to create a new brand of MMSU leadership that is committed to demonstrate the university as clean, agile, responsive, and effective as an academic community.

“Your respective positions come with full trust, respect, and well defined authority. Always remember that our brand of leadership is anchored on our core values – knowledge, inclusiveness, professionalism, and social responsibility,” she said.
