CBEA students haul awards in JPIA contests

Students from the MMSU College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA) hauled major awards in the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) competitions held last September 7-8 at the International House in Northwestern University (NWU) in Laoag City.

 

Based on a report furnished by CBEA dean Dr. Angelina Abrojena, the representatives composed of accountancy students bested other competitors from the Divine Word College of Laoag and the NWU in four different contests. The winners received medals, trophies, certificates, and cash prizes.

 

In the Quiz Bee Level I competition which covered basic accounting, Queenie V. Oamil won first place. Iana Moneliz F. Baltazar and Maria Kate Nicole P. Rabor landed second and third places, respectively; while Mark Joshua A. Sanchez and Ashley Joy M. Buduan settled at fourth place in the same competition.

 

Also, the group composed of Sherwin Paul L. Tambino, Jenny Marie M. Sado, and Chelsey L. Valdeviso got the first spot in the Quiz Bee Level II competition which entailed financial accounting and cost accounting subjects. On the other hand, Kristel Faye B. Pijera, Moana Jei S. Ratuita, and Elaine Joy P. Sadang won second place; while Eloisa Mae T. Agmate, Princess Angelica M. Carnate, and Jeremy S. Pascual landed fourth place.

 

Moreover, Liezel Joy G. Cabanatan and Ira Shalini M. Ybañez prevailed first and third places, respectively, in the extemporaneous speaking; while the group composed of Miller Mei C. Manglal-lan, Nathaniel A. Tamayo, April Gaye Acoba, Giana Cialin S. Cereñado, and Mary Joy R. Llanes emerged champion in the dance craze competition.

 

The competition was the highlight of the provincial accountancy week celebration sponsored by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) – Ilocos Norte Chapter, which was participated in by higher education institutions in the province that offer accountancy courses.

 

Themed “CELL: Culture of Excellence, Leadership, and Loyalty,” the activity also showcased a two-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar among Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) with 16 CPD units, and contests.

 

Earlier on August 30, the group composed of Tambio, Sado, and Valdeviso   won second runner-up in the regional 2018 Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Tax Quiz Bee held in Calasiao, Pangasinan. The activity coincided with the celebration of the 114th BIR anniversary, and was joined by 16 teams from different schools in the Ilocos region.
