CTE hosts K-12 reg’l mass training

COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION – To support the implementation of the new K-12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd), the college hosted the Regional Mass Training of Grade 7 teachers, May 14-June 2.

The trainees included teachers of MAPEH, science, English, Filipino, edukasyong pagpapakatao, social studies, mathematics, and technology and livelihood education (TLE). The training was conducted in four batches.

The teacher-trainers were: Mr. Jay-r Cubangbang and Ms. Maybelle Sta. Maria for MAPEH; Prof. Aleli Martin and Prof. Vida Antonio for science; Dr. Ronald Candy Lasaten and Ms. Charmagne Balantac, English; Dr. Ma. Eliza Lopez and Prof. Edelyn Asuncion, Filipino; Dr. Eliza Samson and Prof. Rose Francis Mina,  edukasyong pagpapakatao; Prof. Imelda Najorda and Prof. Carolyn Paguyo, social studies; Dr. Artemio Seatriz and Dr. Lily Ann Pedro, mathematics; and Prof. Edwin Rivera and Dr. Lorma Valera, TLE.

President Miriam Pascua who graced the training’s opening program expressed support to DepEd, particularly to the said training. Dr. Wilma Natividad, vice president for academic affairs, and Atty. Ramon Leaño, vice president for administration and business, also attended the program.

Dr. Beatriz Torno, executive director of DepEd Teacher Education Council (TEC) monitored the implementation of the training. She was with Dr. Ronnie Mallari, DepEd TEC project consultant; and Vivien Gacula, Maricel Flores, and Rex August Fernadez, DepEd monitoring officials. The education program supervisors from the divisions of Laoag City and Ilocos Norte were also present during the training.

The country is the only one in Asia that has a 10-year basic education curriculum. Thus, the new K-12 Program aims to decongest the existing curriculum making it into 12 years to provide quality education for pupils and students and to prepare them for the future.

“The training is very successful. I am enlightened with this new educational reform. We learned a lot but I hope that the new curriculum will be properly implemented by the new K-12 teachers like me,” one trainee said.
