MMSU professor named top accreditor in PH

A professor of the MMSU College of Industrial Technology was chosen as one of the top performing accreditors in the country by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) Inc.

Dr. Lorma M. Valera, a food technology expert and Chief for Program and Institutional Accreditation of the university was one of the few who received the national honor at a ceremony held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City last March 9.

Other top-performing accreditors are from the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) in Bacnotan, La Union; Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Cebu Technological University, Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology, Pangasinan State University, Nueva Viscaya State University, Davao Del Norte State College, Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology, and the Camarines Norte State College.

In a statement, Dr. Valera said that the recognition acknowledges her humble contribution in promoting the mission of AACCUP, which is to enhance the ability of the state colleges and universities (SUCs) in providing quality education.

“Probably, the selection board of AACCUP noticed my dedication in achieving the best outputs, inspiring my team to work harmoniously, reminding my workmates on the ethics of an accreditor, and considering accreditation as working days, not holidays,” she said.

At the close of the ceremony, Valera said she plans to continuously cooperate with the other members of the AACCUP in developing an innovative mindset, exploring and adopting new trends and inputs to enhance the SUC’s programs, and in strengthening linkages and alliances with other state schools.

With the theme: "Capability-Building for a Robust Quality Assurance System in Higher Education", the conference is one of the initiatives of AACCUP, Inc. in empowering SUCs to evaluate their programs and for quality assurance (QA) of International Higher Education and of the AACCUP itself.

The conference was attended by the representatives from various SUCs in the country, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), local accrediting bodies, officials of private higher education institutions, and the international linkages of AACCUP such as Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), among others.
