Quality Assurance

MANDATE

The Quality Assurance Directorate is mandated to spearhead, coordinate, and provide assistance to the program, institutional, international accreditation/certification and global initiatives and activities of the University in its quest for continual improvement and quality assurance.

 

OBJECTIVES

The Quality Assurance Directorate seeks to provide services and initiatives to the various operating units towards continual improvement for programs in the national and international levels as well as provide support for the attainment of quality management system of the University.

To attain this, the following are the specific objectives:

  • Coordinate the accreditation of curricular programs to Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. not later than the end of their validity period;
  • Coordinate institutional accreditation of the campuses of the University;
  • Provide support to the academic units in processing documents and requirements for the Certificate of Program Compliance;
  • Provide support to the academic units in their Center of Development and Center of Excellence application; and
  • Provide support to the SUC Leveling requirements.
  • Spearhead activities related to the conduct of Institutional Sustainability Assessment (ISA)/ Typology;
  • Spearhead activities for quality assessment and evaluation such as the Philippine Quality Award (PQA);
  • Coordinate with the academic units for international assessment/evaluation;
  • Coordinate with other units in the University to participate in international rankings such as Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Star Rating System, Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking, and World University with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking, among others;
  • Facilitate the conduct of certification of operations/processes of the campuses of the University to ISO 9001: 2015.

 

 

Status of University’s Accreditation

In its quest for institutional excellence, the University subjects itself to Institutional Accreditation (IA) organized by the AACCUP. In 2014, the University’s Batac Campus became the first SUC in the country to be Institutionally Accredited using the Outcomes-based Education (OBE) AACCUP instrument. In 2021, the University was recognized by AACCUP as Institutionally Accredited Level III Re-Accredited in 2020, awarding MMSU a Plaque of Recognition during the 34th Virtual AACCUP Annual National Conference.

 

 

THE QA APPROACHES AND PROGRAMS

The QA employs the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach aligned to the strategic management and quality management system (QMS) of the University.

 

In its accreditation activities, planning involves the programs or operating units concerned with the process and implementation is participatory process involving stakeholders. Accreditation comes in as part of the check process. Based on the results, findings, and recommendations of the accrediting body, action plans are formulated to address these recommendations and to maintain the best practices identified.

 

Similarly, the conduct of  internal quality audit and external audit forms part of the strategic effort to ensure compliance to international standard. The conduct of audit proper is implemented to monitor compliance and conformity to the standard, and identify commendable and positive findings initiatives in the processes. The identification of non-conformity urges the organization to devise actions to resolve such is part of the checking. Finally, the integration of these resolutions to processes as part of the improvement of the operation and the system.

 

 

OFFICE AND CENTERS

 

QA Office

 

The QA is housed at Room 204 of the Ferdinand E. Marcos (FEM) Hall (former Administration Building). It is equipped with office tables and chairs for the staff, conference table with more than enough chairs, filing and display cabinets, computing, printing, and binding equipment, as well as audio-visual and presentation equipment. The QA Directorate has internet access, both wired and wireless.

 

Accreditation Centers/Rooms

 

In as much as most program accreditation activities are done at the academic units, accreditation rooms are established in the different colleges at the Batac (Main) Campus, except the College of Law and College of Medicine.  The Colleges or academic units in Laoag and Currimao Campuses have their own Accreditation Rooms.
